The universality of Islam

Islam , the message of monotheism , was revealed to suit every age and every place .The Message delivered by the Prophet, may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him, came to change the world entirely ,

to ameliorate and better the conditions that the world suffer from , as it is considered a message and call directed to all mankind at all ages. That is all successive generations are addressed and commanded to follow its teachings and instructions. Allah, Glory be to Him, says,(Blessed be He who has sent down the Criterion upon His bondman, that he may be a Warner to the worlds )(AI-Furgan (The Criterion):

As for the Qur'an that the Prophet, may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him, came with, it is unquestionably divine: namely, the heavenly revelation did not mingle with the human thought. It is not the product of human though as some claim . Moreover, the Ever-Glorious Qur'an combines all the messages delivered by the former prophets as well as the guidance of the previous messengers, especially those of great determination, such as Ibrahim, Musa, Nuh and Isa, may the peace of Allah be upon them all. Then, the Seal of the prophets came, Muhammad, may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him, who delivered the Message of His Lord along with commandments that control man's life and guide him toward the upright path until the Day of Resurrection. Allah, the Almighty, reveals: (And that this is My path, a straight (one); so follow it closely and do not follow the (other) ways, or then they would make you part away from His way. That is what He has enjoined you with, that possibly you would be pious.  " "JAI-An'am (Cattle): 153]"

The Messages of the Previous prophets were national:

At old ages, the Divine Revelation was directed to certain spots of the land and certain people. For example, Allah, The Ever High, says,

Indeed we have already sent Nuh (Noah) to his people... "

(AI-A'raf (The Battlements): 59/

And Lut, as he said to his people, "Do you come up to (the obscenity, (while) you behold its impurity?") (_an-aml (The Ant): 54) and

And surely llyas is indeed one of the Emissaries; as he said to his people, "Will you not be pious (towards Allah)?") [As-Saffat (The Rangers): 123-1241.

The Universality of Islam was decided from the beginning _ ofthe Meccan Revelation:

It is worth mentioning that the universality of the Ever-Glorious Book of Allah (i.e., the Qur'an) was stated with the beginning of the Revelation at Mecca. This is supported by the fact that all the Qur'anic Verses indicating this universality were revealed at Mecca, except for one verse, in which Allah, Exalted be He, said,

(In no way is Muhammad the father of any of your men, but the Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of the Prophets.) JAI-Ahzab (The Allied Parties): 401.

Stating that Muhammad is the last Prophet is considered a proof on the universality of his Message. That is no other Messenger or Prophet will come up after him until the Day of Resurrection. This means that the Qur'an will remain be considered as the Message revealed to him. This is considered an answer and proof refuting the claims of those saying that the Message of the Prophet, may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him, addressed to only Arabs.

The Prophetic Method in spreading the Universality of the Islamic Call before the migration :

When the Prophet, may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him was  commissioned to disseminate the Islamic Message, it was naturally that he would call to it in secrecy. He began with his family: namely, his wife Khadijah, his servant Zayd Ibn Harithah and his cousin Aly Ibn Abi Talib. Then, he informed his closest companions. including Abu Bakr, Uthman Ibn 'Affan

and others. After three years, he began to declare his call publicly. The Prophet, may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him, called the people of Mecca, including the tribes of Quraysh, to enter Islam and renounce idols' worship. However, their arrogance and sXubbornness made them turn away from Islam and driven them to conspire against it. In this regard, Allah, the Almighty, says,

(And they repudiated them, and their selves had (inner) certitude of them, out of injustice and exaltation.) [An-Naml (The Ant): 141.

After that, the Prophet, may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him, began to call to Islam outside the geographical and tribal borders of Mecca. He carried his Message to the tribe of Thaqif at At-Ta'if. But, they did not accept his call and turned their backs to him. However, the Prophet did not loose hope, as he continued in his way persistently.

The Prophet's call exceed the borders of Peninsula while being at Mecca:

The call to Islam reached Abyssinia in the fifth year of Prophethood. This is when some of the early Muslims from Mecca migrated to Abyssinia and stayed there for several years consisting the Islamic community in Africa. The aim of their migration was seeking security and stability, after the persecution they suffered at the hands of the people of Quraysh, rather than spreading the call. When An-Najashy heard about the Islamic call, he received Muslims and looked into its teachings. Therefore, he refused to hand Muslims over to the people of Quraysh.

In conclusion, nations as well as people admired the new religion (i.e. Islam) and responded to it. Moreover, they felt that it was a' gift from heavens to them. This is because, the principles of Islam penetrated into their hearts so smoothly, as Islam was and still considered the religion of natural disposition. Allah, Exalted N2 1-ic. revealed,

So set sour face upright to the religion, unswervingly upright, the original (innateness) of Allah upon which He originated

mankind.,7[Ar-Rum (The Romans): 30}
